Interregional Scientific Forum The Arctic Our Global Neighbourhood

ISF — AGN contribution to the Arctic Diplomacy Agenda

The event seeks to facilitate rigorous and respectful dialogue between and among academia, business, diplomats and civil society, where diversity of viewpoints is encouraged and all ideas can be heard, considered and further developed.

We recognize the region’s importance in multiple areas, such as economy and trade, regional security, human safety, and scientific collaboration across borders in turbulent times. The centrepiece of our mission is to analyse the interconnections and interdependences between science-informed decisions, capacity-building efforts and activities by the Arctic stakeholders, by defining them within new avenues of research and new partnerships.

Finally, the achievements will embody our goal of linking the proposals and expectations outlined by the event participants to the reality of operating in the Arctic to find common ground and seize opportunities for positive change.

The objectives of ISF – AGN are:

Sharing expertise, knowledge and data

Foster an engaged and connected research and expert community on a venue for knowledge and data exchange related to the Arctic region to build a strong network and co-ordinating action.

Facilitating international cooperation in the Arctic

The event will help strengthen international ties and cooperation to support integrated stewardship, conservation, and balanced management of Arctic resources.

Promoting the sustainable development in the Arctic

Despite relevant knowledge-sharing, the event promotes the open and transparent discussion on the strategies for Arctic sustainable development, including issues of sustainable social and economic development while respecting the vulnerable environment in the region.

Developing dialogue with stakeholders

This venue provides an opportunity to engage diplomats, investors, non-governmental organizations and indigenous communities in a dialogue about the future of the Arctic and consensus-building process to jointly address the challenges and find win-win solutions.

Architecture of ISF – AGN

We are planning on four interractive sessions where participants can receive feedback and advice from leading Russian and international experts, scientists, federal and local government officials, entrepreneurs, non-profit organizations and media. The event is aimed at exchanging relevant knowledge, discussing the issues raised, as well as integrating the expert community.
